5. Tips for future SAT/ACT takers.

Honestly, just relax when you are taking it. When I got my lowest score (32), I was super worried and was constantly thinking “Oh no, I NEED to do well on this test, my entire future depends on it, blah blah blah”. When I got my 35, I was very relaxed. I just went in and did it without thinking. Telling yourself that you need to do well will mess you up in some cases. Take the test with a very relaxed attitude (while of course being serious about doing well). Starting prep as well as taking tests early will help you maintain that relaxation.

This program helped me raise my English SAT score from 680 to 710, over the cutoff for what I needed to earn the Rhetoric credit at my college and helped my college applications look better and I am thankful for that.

I liked how the lessons were personalized and the homework was directly tied into what was being taught in class. The strategies really helped me to focus on my weaknesses and raise my score. 

The guidance helped me put my work ethic to use.

5. Tips for future ACT/SAT takers

Take the SAT the summer before your junior year because it’s nice to have a score to fall back on that was taken before all the stresses of junior year start. After the school SAT, if you are still not satisfied with your scores, then take one more. I would not suggest taking more than three tests since studies show that scores truly do not change that much after a certain point. Also, scores aren’t all that colleges are looking for and that extra time would be better utilized by making your college essay better.

It also taught me how to quickly analyze long pieces of text and increased my comprehension skills. This allowed me to score a 730 out of 760 on my PSAT English section and only miss three questions on the entire test. It also drastically boosted my ACT score.

The program not only taught me skills for studying for standardized tests but helped me create a method of study for other exams, including those in school. It helped me study for other subjects in standardized tests, proof of which is a perfect score on the math section of the PSAT.”

5. Tips for future ACT/SAT takers

Practice taking tests sophomore year and enroll in preparatory courses. Take an actual test at the end of your sophomore year. Spend sophomore summer going into junior year studying for the exam, taking prep courses, etc. and take the exam your junior year fall. This way you can see an improvement and may even get the score you want before most of our classmates have even taken the SAT/ACT. This will take off much pressure on worrying about balancing school work, extracurricular, and studying for standardized test. It will make your junior year much more manageable and enjoyable. If you do not receive the score you want the first time, you can retake the exam until your receive the score you’re aiming for.

What I liked about the program is that we would review certain types of questions because there were certain styles of questions that I was struggling on.

Moreover, when we worked on my college application essay, we went over multiple drafts of my essay and it helped me organize my thoughts better.

       The sessions were very easy to settle into. Instructor Madhan’s skill rendered it virtually effortless to align oneself with the lesson of the day.  Instructor Madhan regularly asks the students questions pertaining to the subject matter and is eager to help when a student has any type of doubt. A round robin system was also regularly practiced when reviewing assignments to keep the attention of all students focused on the lesson.

5. Tips for future ACT/SAT takers

  • The content of the test is not exclusively hard to understand, but the questions are often posed in a way to bait the testtaker to pick an obvious option while relinquishing the more subtle correct option. This is a good thing to keep in mind while taking the test, as reexamining questions late in the section I initially thought were too easy saved me points on both tests. It should also be noted this primarily appeals to the SAT, and less so the ACT.

  • Keep the clock in mind not to the point where it becomes intrusive but where you can recall it at any time. Everybody manages time differently, but knowing the clock helps in most cases.

  • ###Bring caffeine gum and coconut water to the testing center to make friends. This is how I got a spare calculator from someone the time I forgot to bring a calculator to take the ACT.
